Summary

If faking love is this easy。。。 how do you know when it’s real?

When her partner of over a decade suddenly ends things, Laurie is left reeling—not only because they work at the same law firm and she has to see him every day。 Her once perfect life is in shambles and the thought of dating again in the age of Tinder is nothing short of horrifying。 When news of her ex’s pregnant girlfriend hits the office grapevine, taking the humiliation lying down is not an option。 Then a chance encounter in a broken-down elevator with the office playboy opens up a new possibility。

Jamie Carter doesn’t believe in love, but he needs a respectable, steady girlfriend to impress their bosses。 Laurie wants a hot new man to give the rumor mill something else to talk about。 It’s the perfect proposition: a fauxmance played out on social media, with strategically staged photographs and a specific end date in mind。 With the plan hatched, Laurie and Jamie begin to flaunt their new couple status, to the astonishment—and jealousy—of their friends and colleagues。 But there’s a fine line between pretending to be in love and actually falling for your charming, handsome fake boyfriend。。。

Laurie and Jamie started fake dating with one bed and no sex。 I didn’t hate it but I have to admit the pace was just way too slow for me。 I enjoyed that Laurie needed to rediscover herself after an 18 year relationship breakup and Jamie is not the “playboy” that everyone painted him as。 British, clean, contemporary, rom-com

Cute relationship development with some nice tension, but ultimately a rushed conflict and resolution at the end!

This was okay, an enjoyable read。 I felt it was very predictable but I enjoyed that as it made it a quick read。 I would recommend if you enjoy this sort of book - it isn't my favourite type of book and I think that affected my rating :) This was okay, an enjoyable read。 I felt it was very predictable but I enjoyed that as it made it a quick read。 I would recommend if you enjoy this sort of book - it isn't my favourite type of book and I think that affected my rating :) 。。。more

This was a pretty cute romance。 There was quite a few different tropes - the primary one being fauxmance。 It felt a bit drawn out and some of the drama unnecessary which is really the only reason I didn't rate it higher。 I liked Laurie - she is a lawyer and takes care of her business。 It's nice seeing a strong female in a realistic romance that ends up not needing to be "saved" by the male lead。 This was a pretty cute romance。 There was quite a few different tropes - the primary one being fauxmance。 It felt a bit drawn out and some of the drama unnecessary which is really the only reason I didn't rate it higher。 I liked Laurie - she is a lawyer and takes care of her business。 It's nice seeing a strong female in a realistic romance that ends up not needing to be "saved" by the male lead。 。。。more

I found it a little tough to get immersed in the story since this is British, but it was enjoyable nonetheless。 It was very cute, with some genuine heartfelt moments, and I can’t say I really disliked anything。 There just wasn’t a huge “wow” factor, just nice, reliable rom com。

The audiobook is the only reason this is 3 stars instead of 2。 I wanted to like this story but I didn't really connect with the protagonist。 I understand that people are flawed and whatnot but it was really weird to read a hyper-liberal feminist book with a Pick Me protagonist and thoroughly random trauma added in out of nowhere for flare。 The audiobook is the only reason this is 3 stars instead of 2。 I wanted to like this story but I didn't really connect with the protagonist。 I understand that people are flawed and whatnot but it was really weird to read a hyper-liberal feminist book with a Pick Me protagonist and thoroughly random trauma added in out of nowhere for flare。 。。。more

slow burn worth staying up for! love the growth of our lead characters, they were juicily written。 also enjoyed how McFarlane treats race and misogyny, especially in the workforce and greater western society

This book was good, but I just felt that Laurie and Jamie were still just friends, and not a couple as they wanted everyone to believe。Dan and Laurie have been together for a long time, when he broke up with her。 The news completely devastated Laurie。 She loved Dan and he hurt her。 Jamie and Laurie decided to make they're co-workers think that they're a couple。 But poor Jamie had a bad reputation, for doing nothing wrong; all from what people thought that he did。 What really annoyed me was that This book was good, but I just felt that Laurie and Jamie were still just friends, and not a couple as they wanted everyone to believe。Dan and Laurie have been together for a long time, when he broke up with her。 The news completely devastated Laurie。 She loved Dan and he hurt her。 Jamie and Laurie decided to make they're co-workers think that they're a couple。 But poor Jamie had a bad reputation, for doing nothing wrong; all from what people thought that he did。 What really annoyed me was that Dan actually felt that he had a right to tell Laurie who to date。 I loved that she told him off! 。。。more

Took me a few chapters to get invested。 But once hooked i cant stop hahah。。cliche plot but still interesting。 Glad that bit by bit Laurie realise how she deserved more and how much of a dick is Dan etc。 And you will love Jamie。 I cant stop picturing him as Ryan Gosling lol

A romance novel with some strong opinions about women issues and touches upon people of color。 Many referrals to British pop culture。

There was a little too much swearing and crude talk/jokes for me, so I didn’t read much beyond the beginning and end。 Not for me, but the actual plot/characters were pretty decent (from what I read)。

This was good, I thoroughly enjoyed it。 I'd felt the story focused more on Laurie rather than Laurie and Jamie, but I actually liked it, cause the process of her coming to terms with what happened was very believable and relatable。 The pace was good, the dialogues were interesting, the social issues were addressed。 The ending was。。。 effed up and I didn't like it。 It dropped this story from 4 stars to 3。SPOILER。 Big one。I felt like the author just assumed before she started writing "behold, this This was good, I thoroughly enjoyed it。 I'd felt the story focused more on Laurie rather than Laurie and Jamie, but I actually liked it, cause the process of her coming to terms with what happened was very believable and relatable。 The pace was good, the dialogues were interesting, the social issues were addressed。 The ending was。。。 effed up and I didn't like it。 It dropped this story from 4 stars to 3。SPOILER。 Big one。I felt like the author just assumed before she started writing "behold, this one will end with engagement" and she stuck to it even when the story as it shaped up didn't support this AT ALL。 It was jarring, completely out of character and I actually cursed at it。END of spoiler, I guess 。。。more

Romcom at its best。 I could completely see this done as a movie。 It was a pretty typical will they won’t they and had a predictable plot line but if what you want is a fun romantic comedy, this is it。 It does delve into some sexism in the workplace, but that is definitely not the main plot point。 Overall Laurie is a likeable main character, her best friend Emily is equally as likeable and the beau, Jamie, has a few unexpected character traits and flaws making him more “real”。 I’d recommend it fo Romcom at its best。 I could completely see this done as a movie。 It was a pretty typical will they won’t they and had a predictable plot line but if what you want is a fun romantic comedy, this is it。 It does delve into some sexism in the workplace, but that is definitely not the main plot point。 Overall Laurie is a likeable main character, her best friend Emily is equally as likeable and the beau, Jamie, has a few unexpected character traits and flaws making him more “real”。 I’d recommend it for a nice beach read or escape from reality。 。。。more

If I Never Met You is a story of heartbreak, resilience, and love。 It has my favorite literary tropes: enemies to lovers, fake relationship, only one bed, etc。 It’s a lighthearted novel that covers difficult topics such as the death of a sibling and parental relationships, as well as terminal illnesses and microaggressions。 It speaks to McFarlane’s writing talent that she can craft a compelling rom-com novel that is surprisingly deep。 The concepts of self love and being enough/not changing yours If I Never Met You is a story of heartbreak, resilience, and love。 It has my favorite literary tropes: enemies to lovers, fake relationship, only one bed, etc。 It’s a lighthearted novel that covers difficult topics such as the death of a sibling and parental relationships, as well as terminal illnesses and microaggressions。 It speaks to McFarlane’s writing talent that she can craft a compelling rom-com novel that is surprisingly deep。 The concepts of self love and being enough/not changing yourself for any man ring true to many women。 If you want a good summer read that isn’t just a surface level romance, then this is the book for you。 。。。more

What a de-f*#!ing- light this book was。 I loved it- cute, funny, and oh so heartwarming。 I loved the developing relationships and give me all the drama。 It was so fun watching Laurie find herself again and realize the badass b!$&@ she is! I cried, laughed and loved it。

Liked the beginning, the ending was kinda abrupt & lackluster for me。 The beginning really pissed me off story wise tho like I was FUMING。 Other than that, it was a cute read

This book was pretty good for the most part。 But I must admit there were some moments where I would fall asleep while I was reading。 However, once the plot started to go somewhere, I practically enjoyed it。 This is your “typical enemies-to-lovers” and “going into a relationship in an attempt to benefit both sides” story, which I enjoy reading。 As I was reading this book, it reminded me about To All The Boy I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han because Peter and Lara Jean’s upbringing was very similar t This book was pretty good for the most part。 But I must admit there were some moments where I would fall asleep while I was reading。 However, once the plot started to go somewhere, I practically enjoyed it。 This is your “typical enemies-to-lovers” and “going into a relationship in an attempt to benefit both sides” story, which I enjoy reading。 As I was reading this book, it reminded me about To All The Boy I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han because Peter and Lara Jean’s upbringing was very similar to Laurie and Jamie since they went into the relationship in hopes to benefit both sides。 。。。more

Pure bubblegum pop of the highest form。 One of the silver linings for this last year was that instead of running for a train, I can lay in bed and read until way past my normal get up and go time。 And this morning, I pushed that really, really, really far。 In fact, I start work at 9am and I was in bed reading until 8:50am because I just needed one more chapter, just one more, no maybe just one more, shit maybe just one more, oh shit no I really need to get up now。 My first review of one of McFar Pure bubblegum pop of the highest form。 One of the silver linings for this last year was that instead of running for a train, I can lay in bed and read until way past my normal get up and go time。 And this morning, I pushed that really, really, really far。 In fact, I start work at 9am and I was in bed reading until 8:50am because I just needed one more chapter, just one more, no maybe just one more, shit maybe just one more, oh shit no I really need to get up now。 My first review of one of McFarlane's books said that it needed more sex but ya know what?
